So, just finished Dark Souls and...

Just wow, what an absolutely incredible experience.

Probably gonna be a bit of a long thread, just because there is so much I can gush about this game.

And again, @CrashThompsonXO, so glad I decided to play it after watching your vid. 🙏🏻
I know I’m probably not gonna offer anything new to this discussion, just wanna gush about this for a bit.

First off, my favorite fights in this game has to Artorias, Gwyn, Ornstein & Smough, Kalameet, and Seeth the Scaless. Sif, though not as challenging, is a personal favorite
The battles that I enjoyed the least are the Bed of Chaos (shocking, I know 😅), Pinwheel, and Darklord Gwyndolin.
I get the Bed of Chaos was supposed to be a puzzle boss, but it just was such a clunky hassle, in parts it felt cheep, and also just felt a bit disappointing as a lord fight. And I like a good puzzle boss. The Tower Knight from Demon’s Soul (played, never beat the game) was GREAT
Pinwheel was just criminally easy as a fight, but even still, I LOOOVE the tragedy & the lore behind him.

Gwyndolin... eh, he was very much underwhelming as he didnt pose that much of a challenge 🤷🏻‍♂️
But nearly every other boss was so much fun, and the high points are SO FREAKIN HIGH.

The Ornstein & Smough was a great 2 on 1 challenge with the two differing fighting styles matching well with one another & with a great, yet simplistic, arena design to make it achievable
Kalameet was such a fun Dragon battle. Got my ass handed to me PLENTY of times, but it at no point felt unfair.

Seeth, whilst not my absolute favorite, was one I enjoyed figuring out and loved the boss design and the backstory.
Then there’s Gwyn, which is such an awesome way to end the game. His immediate rush towards ya, the ferocity of the combat, the environment, everything lends to a satisfying & truly epic conclusion.
Knight Artorias might just be my favorite battle. The tragic backstory, the intense, quick paced, & savage yet agile combat style, the music, just everything about this fight I absolutely ADORE. And how it ties into Sif’s fight
And this game is so atmospheric. Seriously, the mood and overall environment it creates is just masterfully excuted in most places. And with such variety, to the abandon underground ruins of New Londo, to the squaller of Blighttown, to the grandeur & heavenly aura of Anor Londo.
And, this might sound silly to focus one, but I don’t think I’ve seen too many works in visual mediums (video games, films, etc.) that has done as good of a job at creating a sense of scale as this title has. For example, the city of Anor Londo just feels massive.
And it even achieved this with small things, like in the white void connecting Firelink to the Kiln of the First Flame. I missed it my first time through, but the phantoms of the Black Knights walking straight across the path is such a brilliant touch.
And the themes of challenging the notion of Light & Dark equates to Good & Evil is one I absolutely adore. That general idea is one of the reasons I love The Witcher series & enjoy writing about myself (nothing nearly as good as these two titles, of course 😅)
The game also does a great job environmental story telling, which is something I love. The in-depth lore that this world has (though, had a bit of a head-start in that department thanks to @VaatiVidya’s Prepare to Cry series 😅)
And the soundtrack to this game, MY GOD, THE FREAKIN MUSIC!!! The way it helps set the mood throughout the game, from the bombastic & epic to sinister & unsettling to the surprisingly effective somber piano based piece in Gwyn’s final battle.
Again, sorry for all the gushing and I could go into so much more detail about every aspect of this thing, but this thread is beyond long enough as is. Just an absolutely brilliant piece of story telling & art and I definitely have a new appreciation & fandom for this series
