In 365 days, I will have a child who is herself an adult. Thinking a lot about that since yesterday.
No one asked for a thread on this, but I'll do one anyway. (Can't be much worse than most of the stuff that passes for "content" on this site)

So here goes: Becoming a father is a life-long commitment and you know that on Day 1.
What you figure out quickly is how little time you have to do the work you're supposed to do.
You are helping a person come into the world with many fewer years you thought you had on Day 1.
So you learn to let go, slowly (too slowly for them, to be sure) but surely, and you need to know you've done most of your job in what feels like the blink of an eye.
One hopes you'll always be there as "wise owl" (Read: Old Man) counsel, but you're basically done by the time they get to CEGEP. You better have built a good human by then. (No credit to me, but I'm certain we have).
