My comments on the #MedBikini paper on @PubPeer.
"The authors fail to give a clear definition of their inclusion and exclusion criteria. This is not science, it is judgement. Which measurements of the bikinis and t-shirts did they deem inappropriate? "

In the paper, "Prevalence of unprofessional social media content among young vascular surgeons", three male authors stalked young students' social media account for
"inappropriate behavior".
How can that be done unbiased and objective?
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31882313/
According to the authors, posting an image in swimwear, holding a glass of alcohol, or even censored profanity is "unprofessional".
Here is my professional opinion: that is f*cked up.
The paper never defines what "inappropriate" is. This is potentially very gender-biased.
Is a post of a woman in a bikini more inappropriate than that of a man in swimming trunks?
And what the f*ck is "provocative posing"?
Since apparently holding a glass of alcohol is unprofessional, I assume the authors have never been caught holding a glass of wine or beer at a conference reception.
Let's hope no one will go search for such photos online. Let's really hope no one will post those here....
I think this person looks a bit intoxicated here.
Just trying to point out that "looking intoxicated" is very subjective.
And is this an inappropriate Halloween costume?
Is one of the authors here spotted together with a person holding a glass of something that might be alcohol?
And don't tell me that I am creepy. These are public photos featuring the authors.
Whether or not these are unprofessional is completely subjective.
(To make it clear: none of these photos are unprofessional in my opinion).
Is that a bottle of beer in the same photo as one of the authors, speaking here at a conference?
Does that count as "clearly unprofessional" or as "potentially unprofessional"?
I am not sure if this account is fake, but this appears to be one of the authors of the paper on unprofessional social media content. Which seems ..... ironic.

(And to be clear - again, this is not an unprofessional photo in my opinion).
