Personal news ⏲️ — I’ve decided to leave my role as the Dir. of Product at @Chalkbeat. I’ll be taking a short break, then available for consulting. This was an incredibly hard decision, as I have so much respect and admiration for the journalists and leadership at Chalkbeat. 1/8
Two years ago, I joined Chalkbeat with the goal to prepare the organization for aggressive local market growth by shoring up their tech, brand and product strategy. I built a cross-x product team, led a complete rebrand, overhauled their tech stack. 2/8
I negotiated a major partnership with Vox Media, so Chalkbeat could become an early adopter of @Chorus — the perfect modern CMS for a networked, vertical news site planning aggressive expansion. 3/8
Ultimately, I worked myself out of a job and the time came to discuss how my role should evolve. In those talks, it became clear that I needed some time to figure out what I want to do next. 4/8
Part of this decision, something I’ve struggled to talk about publicly: I’ve been trying to get pregnant since before I joined CB. For me, infertility feels like a compounding cycle of grief. And it’s been hard to own my feelings of repeatedly grieving what I never had. 5/8
I’m hopeful that by taking a break and prioritizing my mental health, I’ll be able to devote new energy to my family and the next stage of my career, whatever that may be. 6/8
I’ve learned so much from @Chalkbeat’s cadre of badass women leaders, @elizwgreen @alisonmaego @bigeastgirl @JenniBram @MariaArchangelo, Rebecca Ross. I cannot thank y’all enough for your support. I look forward to seeing CB continue to flourish under your leadership. 7/8
TL;DR: If you’re looking for help with product strategy, news innovation, building successful cross-x teams and processes or just want to chat — my door & DMs are open. 8/8
