I have a theory that Lori pulled a Miegs Field and had the Columbus statue removed overnight because she thinks it'll deter protestors from swarming her house. She thinks they'll be appeased. LOL
The protesters will NEVER like ber because she will never be that far left. They have a long, rambling list of demands. Other statues. Parks renamed. CPAC. Defund CPD. Etc., etc., etc.
There had actually been a movement to rename Douglas Park to Douglass Park that took a few years, but it sounds like they finally made progress. Students and community members petitioned and went through proper channels.
In the meantime, there have been numerous cases where Lori has had nearly the entire 014th district pulled from patrol, in addition to 016th and 017th district tact units, to guard her house from protesters. They are unavailable to answer 911 calls.
For reference, 014 includes Humboldt Park, Wicker Park, Bucktown, and Logan Square. It is already short-staffed with a disproportionate amount of afternoon-shift officers working "10-99," or without a partner.
So, the protesters don't like Lori. A lot of the police don't care for her either, since she refused to admit that initial protests in the end of May/beginning of June were not adequately planned for, didn't show up when multiple officers were shot and one died that month..
Decided to trash the police at a press conference with Bobby Rush for eating popcorn in his office, never following up to investigate claims that those officers were dumped there without squad cars and were invited into the office..
And made comments that she wanted particular officers fired for actions that, in some cases, warrant discipline, but under CPD guidelines, are not offenses that alone merit termination.
All the meanwhile, shootings, robberies, and homicides are skyrocketing. Criminals feel emboldened due to the lack of enforcement that already existed due to Covid, and now a political atmosphere highly critical of police.
Additionally, based on my own observations, city services are falling behind drastically. There are so many malfunctioning traffic signals. So many blocks under a cover of darkness because their street lights have been out for WEEKS, which is a huge safety hazard.
I don't envy the Mayor that she has had to deal with unprecedented crises, particularly Covid-19. I know that, like any politician, her decisions will never appease anyone. So, for that, I'll give her a little credit.
But the concept that CPD brass has been commanded to have their officers "only monitor" large crowds until they self-disperse (for example impromptu Puerto Rican and Pride parades), but at the same time having an entire district act as her personal security team, is ridiculous.
It's this wishy-washiness that concerns a lot of CPD officers. For months, she demanded them break up private gatherings. But in May, they dispersed a large street party in Englewood, recovered 2 guns, and she took to Twitter to insinuate that civil rights may have been violated.
It's like she knows it's popular to hate the police, so she doesn't have their back, but at the same time, she wants them to do her bidding.

So, regardless of what you think of Chicago FOP 7 president John Catanzara, when he says she acts like a dictator, there is sense to it.
Did I have a point here? I dunno. But thanks for following along. Basically, Chicago is going to hell in a handbasket. And empty words countered by hypocritical actions don't help.
It's also unfair that private businesses are bearing the brunt of Covid-19 enforcement, but individuals who are doing things far worse than not social distancing, are not being held accountable. And then CPD is damned if they do, damned if they don't.
This is merely a snapshot of some of the things happening in Chicago. It's not meant to be comprehensive, but I hope it gave some of you some context. That's all.
