@DrMannySenate loves to talk about being a VUMC surgeon because it gives him credibility but I don& #39;t see any such disclaimers on the social media account tagged here. His account arguably reaches far more people than some random employee or student like me tweeting. (2/7)
Far more importantly, VU med students were told (as they should have been) that if they don& #39;t maintain appropriate social distancing in their "personal lives" outside of the hospital we& #39;ll lose our privilege to be back in the hospital because we& #39;ll be endangering patients, (3/7)
but VUMC has a trauma surgeon meeting with large crowds of unmasked people around TN and then operating on patients? Not sure if VUMC has a policy for employees like their policy for med students, but we should, and the policies should be consistent. (4/7)
I& #39;m not tweeting this to be a pain. This is literally just because I care about our patients& #39; health and the fact that COVID-19 cases are rising in Nashville and larger TN. Here we have a public figure unabashedly ignoring safe health practices. (5/7)
He& #39;s also trying to cater to people who don& #39;t want to listen to the advice of medical and scientific experts and will immediately latch on to the one example that affirms their worldview. Instead of trying so hard to appeal to them by not wearing a mask or social distancing (6/7)
(I& #39;m giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he knows better), he could be using his public-facing role to promote safe health practice regardless of political party. The politicization of basic health practices is literally killing people in our state and country (7/7)
I thought I was done but the more I think about it, the more upsetting this is because as a surgeon this man wears masks ALL the time! @DrMannySenate I& #39;m begging you to please help teach people that masks are nothing to be scared about
