#DreamsPS4 #CoMmunity #MadeInDreams
A thread.
Hi everyone. I want to talk about something that means the world to me, especially at the moment with so much craziness out there. I want to talk about us as a collective.
(1/16)
We are a global team that create amazing things. Music. Characters. Scenes. Sculptures. Animation. Logic. DREAMS. We’ve become actual real-life friends in so many cases – friends I suspect I’ll have for the rest of my life.
(2/16)
I can’t begin to speak to how insane that feels to write, nor how much it touches me to be able to write that without a shred of embarrassment.
Communities online are stereotyped as the realm of fanboys; abuse screamed into headsets at 3am; SWAT-ing.
(3/16)
I love that we’re not that. I love that we’re a group of people who share a common interest, who invest in each other, and who love to see what people are creating.
I saw this most recently during the #DreamsCom20 stream.
(4/16)
A group of people from across the world put trailers together for upcoming work, and HUNDREDS put insane booths out there for everyone to explore.
And was watched by over 1k people live, and not far off 11k (on YouTube alone) people so far have watched what we created.
(5/16)
I’m monumentally proud of the fact that throughout the stream and the show floor, every comment was ‘wow’, ‘whoah’, ‘awesome’.
(Xbox, I’m looking at your streams. Girl, you in trouble. X)
(6/16)
Seriously, we’re a diverse group of creatives, and I love you all. Even those of you I don’t see eye to eye with.
(7/16)
@Beatlebum78 and I have disagreed about music production – we have fundamentally different opinions. But you know what? It was a dialogue. We have had a number of really intense conversations. Because we are so *passionate* about what we feel.
(8/16)
@BoatReddish and I have disagreed on audio and gameplay mechanics – again, never from a point of view of ‘I’m right, you’re wrong’ – always from a point of view of ‘I think this is the case, and here’s why…’.
(9/16)
I treasure that I have the backing of so many people who challenge me and push me to re-assess my thinking. It’s what drives me forward. It’s how I learn.
And it’s always from a point of view of respect, even if we disagree.
(10/16)
Every member of this community has something to contribute. Not everyone is the same skill level, but we are all incredibly valuable as members of the shared success of dreams.
In the midst of the CV-19 pandemic, personally, Dreams has been my anchor in choppy waters.
(11/16)
I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn when I say that we have all felt that to a greater or lesser extent.
And when something happens to that anchor, or when someone says something that counters what we feel protective of, we naturally attack.
(12/16)
We leap to the defence of that which we believe and hold important. It’s called The Backfire Effect.
I want to see our community continue to go from strength to strength.
I want to see us strive and push each other and – yes, even disagree.
(13/16)
We’re allowed to disagree. It’s critical! Don’t walk away from something because a person has disagreed.
Know that this community will NEVER deliberately attack anyone, or push anyone out. It’s just not our style.
(14/16)
Everyone is welcome, and we will always welcome critical dialogue when it’s coming from a place of a desire to see better, be greater and do more.
BUT if you're challenging with your thoughts and opinions, be open to discourse.

Expect to be challenged back just as much.
(15/16)
We are so much greater than the sum of our parts.

We are the #DreamsPS4CoMmunity

And I look forward to seeing what you create, play or share, whether that's in VR or not. ;-)
