phew not to be that bich but ts listened to at weddings huh
i get it she listened to some barely listened to indie records during quar and was like "omg i am inspired" i get it. but listening to lesser known artists, putting your own little twist on lyrics already written and then literally rebranding yourself to sell said art...
nothing new. look back at each of her record’s after realizing she could reach beyond the country music world. she rebrands her art to what ever the market is paying attention to. she doesn’t really even have to do this-she has a huge audience already.
it is just lazy of us to applaud lazy work. there is so much INCREDIBLE and WILD NEW MUSIC ( @katie_dey has an deep record just waiting to be explored) but like sure spend your day listening to ts's version of lyrics that already exist
a lot of people write songs this way apparently? i like this song so i am going to try to write a song like it. which is maybe fine i guess? but like you're gonna need to come up with your own ideas.
i'm not against tswift. happy for her getting to control her own shit now. that is a huge step for any musician let alone a ~woman~ but i feel like we need to really think about how we pay attention to artists in the pop realm who blatanly copy ideas of lesser known artists
and yeah people are gonna shit on me for saying all of this but I'm tired of white feminism letting this stuff off the hook, tired of men affirming this record literalllyyyy because some of the national members played on it (the ntnl is one of my favorite bands btw!)
it is boring and lazy lazy work. anyway next bandcamp day is august 7th. buy some unknown music, or that record you never heard of but your friend told you about that you said you'd listen to, and support artists that actually need it.
once again. i really do not have any personal ill will towards ole tswift. not a drop. don't like a lot her personal choices, but i don't hate her. i'm a woman critiquing this weird music world vacuum i live in.
i didn't create indie music hahaha. we all are inspired by art! this is a simple and fair critique. there are several sets of lyrics that are super similar to some of my lyrics. that is why i noticed. and i'm sure i'm not the only one she lowkey copied (if she did) just thoughts!
anyway this is an INCREDIBLE NEW RECORD as well https://nnamdiogbonnaya.bandcamp.com/album/krazy-karl
anyway i am only a witch who can read, cackle, and pass along good music and hopefully a few thoughtful critiques.
