I hope when all of the indie music journalists are writing about this record they first take a few minutes to reflect on the fact that a large group of paid people literally sat around in a room multiple times meeting about how to craft a product you would write about this way.
Going back and forth about the different strategies with their pros and cons. Which people should and shouldn't be involved to get the proper response from indie press. The capitalization of the track list. All of it.
The credits reflect the musical version of an Avengers movie. I am sure it its finely crafted almost perfect product. But it also vital that the narrative reflects just that. And not the false narrative of what that group of people in the room wanted.
Because if not, the false narrative does a massive disservice to every other record and every other independent musician you write about, by acting like this is the same as what they are doing, when it is not in any way shape or form.
I'm sure it is a fantastic record. I have been a vocal fan of Taylor's music for a very long time. Back from when her records were just as well written and crafted, but we're not being crafted to intentionally take up the space reserved for independent music.
