On Simms unbuttoned Kyle Shanahan is talking about how he called games early on to not lose and help the defense.

Said he knew it would be sketchy at the start with Jimmy G coming off of a torn ACL and having to lean on young receivers. Knew the offense would be stagnant

Simms asked if Jimmy started clicking when the #49ers traded for Sanders

“That was the timing of it but our defense and our run game carried our offense at the beginning of the year to where we didn’t have to do much or put a lot on Jimmy”

“During that time, though we were undefeated while all a sudden Jimmy never thought about his ACL come week 6,7,8. It allowed us to weather that storm that so many players have to go through coming back from an injury.”

Shanahan on feeling like it’s SuperBowl or bust “That’s why I never want to do this stuff. That’s why it’s taken me 167 days to come back on. Because I know Florio is going to take something this and say ‘oh Kyle Shanahan is only worried about this’ “

“We were a couple plays short of winning the SuperBowl. What do people expect our expectations to be?”

“Once you feel good in this league, I promise you will be so humbled. You always need to think you are about to get fired. Always need to think you are about to get cut because... you are”

Simms asked Kyle what’s his message to Jimmy heading into this season

“That you are just getting started. It was your first time playing for entire season. Never had longer than a 3 game stretch. And last year you had 16. Look how good you did. Look how far we got”

“But that’s not the finished product. And not just for Jimmy, for me and all the guys. We are still going”
