I would like to advocate for Getting Out of Town this summer, in whatever way you can manage/afford. Camping trip, staying with friends you trust, hitting the road in some form or another. Even just a day trip to be somewhere else is good for the brain and you deserve it!
And if you have the kind of job where you have vacation days but you’re the kind of person (like me) that feels like you need permission to use them, I hereby give you permission
I don’t think this reply was made in good faith but obviously wear a mask skip the beach bar https://twitter.com/Gorebooster1/status/1286643644556926976?s=20
Get out of town =/= meet anyone at all, take it from me, someone who did a contactless drive across America
100%, again getting out of town =/= mingling w the locals or experiencing a different city or sampling the local craft cocktail scene or or or https://twitter.com/brookebhawkins/status/1286732413234810882?s=20
When I say "get out of town" I mean go somewhere rural, contained, bring as much of your own food as possible and go contactless for everything else, literally just put your body and your eyes and ears in a different place for a while. Safer than the grocery store.
Staying inside all the time for four months is not feasible for most people for their mental health. And there are plenty of ways to be outside that don't cause harm. We have to take the long view as far as making it through another year+ of this. Short term relief is essential.
It is not rude or immoral to do this if you do it safely. You are preserving yourself and your capacity to be there for other people emotionally and practically. Sorry, I feel very strongly about this and I think it's 100% possible and advisable.
