Just after 9:30pm in Portland. There’s at least 2,000 in this crowd already. More continue to arrive:

Singing “hands up, please don’t shoot me” with phone lights on.

Kind of surreal:

“Can we stop this before mothers are throwing grenades??”

The speeches continue here in Portland:

The moms are forming a barrier around the crowd:

The wall of moms is huge

Looks like trash bags are being tossed over the fence at the courthouse. One or two bottles have also been thrown

The first warning just came over the loudspeaker from officers. The crowd is not happy

The crowd is getting angrier

Lots of fence banging. Officers have remained inside so far but are issuing warnings

One man is walking around trying to de-escalate the crowd. He says officers won’t shoot if the crowd doesn’t give them a reason to. Urges them to stop banging on the fence

Fireworks have begun. Just after this one was thrown into the courthouse area

Another firework is thrown into the courthouse area. Officers are continuing to issue warnings

As people argue in the crowd, a small fire just started on the other side of the fence

More fireworks and a slightly bigger fire

Every time the announcement comes over the speaker, the crowd in front of the courthouse gets louder

Officers are out... it’s a literal battle. The crowd is not backing down

Officers have retreated back into the building and protesters are regrouping at the fence. You can see just how smoky it is out here in Portland

BREAKING: Officers have declared an unlawful assembly over the loudspeaker. Warning the crowd to leave ... but they’re standing strong

Officers have come out and tried to push the crowd back after announcing an unlawful assembly. The crowd is still fighting back

Officers have arrived from a side street and pushed back the protesters

Officers are pushing the crowd back further and further away from the courthouse. Almost got hit with a few of those flash bangs in the process

There’s now a standoff...

The crowd just keeps trying to return

Officers just turned around and sprinted away...protesters are already returning to the courthouse

Rioters broken through the fence .... officers have come outside to repair the broken fence

Here’s the part where rioters broke through in Portland:

They’re continuing to try and open up the fence

(Looks like officers never repaired it to begin with).

There’s a a big garbage fire:

Federal officers try to push back the remaining rioters again

There’s still a surprising amount of rioters here. Officers put out the fire and eventually retreated. Fire is lit again. It’s 3am in Portland

They are approaching from all sides now

I’m told this isn’t the first arrest this evening/morning

More chaos as officers retreat again

We’re calling it a night (morning?) There are some stragglers still downtown, but most have dispersed.
