For far too long, the Department of State has been led by people unwilling to challenge the disastrous foreign policy consensus and the logic of constant intervention. We need a progressive Secretary of State committed to multilateralism and, above all else, peace.

For that reason, Data for Progress recommends that former Ambassador and Senator @RussFeingold, former Ambassador and Rep. @TomPerriello, current Senator and member of the Foreign Relations Committee @JeffMerkley, and Rep. @RoKhanna be considered for Secretary of State.

We've seen the same dynamic play out at the Pentagon. Progressives should not cede defense policy to either the conservative Right or moderate liberals and should take the prospect of staffing the Department of Defense seriously.

For this reason, Data for Progress recommends that Representative @RoKhanna, Representative @RepBarbaraLee, former Assistant Secretary of State @TMCountryman, and Senator and member of the Armed Services Committee @SenGillibrand be considered for Secretary of Defense.

Under Trump, the Department of Justice's leadership have dropped any pretense of caring about the civil rights of the vulnerable. Progressives need to push for the DoJ to be staffed with people committed to protecting the rights of the marginalized and fighting white collar crime

For that reason, Data for Progress recommends that former Minnesota AG @KeithEllison, former Assistant AG for Civil Rights @VanitaGuptaCR, Philadelphia DA @Krasner4DA, former EEOC Chair @JennyRYang, and former NY AG Barbara Underwood be considered for Attorney General.

Under Trump, the Department of the Treasury has been staffed with people solely interested in the enrichment of a privileged few. A progressive administration would push for the Department to be staffed with individuals committed to fighting inequality and a just recovery.

Data for Progress recommends that former Deputy Secretary of the Treasury and leading progressive @SBloomRaskin, former Secretary of Labor @RBReich, former CFPB Director @RichCordray, and economist and former UN advisor @JeffDSachs be considered for Secretary of the Treasury.

Under Donald Trump, the Department of the Interior has been staffed with people wholly uninterested in environmental conservation. Under a progressive administration, the Secretary of the Interior would push for an expansion of America's natural park system.

For this reason, Data for Progress recommends that Rep. @RepDebHaaland, President of the National Congress of American Indians @PresFawnSharp, Rep. @RepRaulGrijalva, and Governor @JayInslee be considered for Secretary of the Interior.

Under Donald Trump, the Department of Agriculture has been staffed with allies of agribusiness opposed to climate-friendly agricultural policy. Under a progressive administration, the USDA would prioritize sustainable agriculture and full funding for the SNAP program.

For the position of Secretary of Agriculture, Data for Progress recommends that NBFA founder John W. Boyd, Rep. @ChelliePingree, @RepMcGovern, Congressman @PeterWelch, and Vermont Lieutenant Governor @DaveZuckermanVT be considered for the position.

The wide functions of the Department of Commerce have long been understood. Responsible for setting industrial standards and, among other things, the conducting of the Census, the post should be taken seriously by a progressives.

For the crucial position of Secretary of Commerce, Data for Progress recommends that Federal Trade Commissioner @ChopraFTC, @RepSchakowsky, former Department of Commerce Chief Economist Susan Helper, and former CFPB Director and Ohio AG @RichCordray be considered.

Under Donald Trump, the Department of Labor has abandoned its duty to protect workers. Under a progressive administration, the Secretary of Labor would fight for the rights of all workers and be an of organized labor.

For the position of Secretary of Labor, Data for Progress recommends that former EEOC chair @JennyRYang, former CA Labor Commissioner @JulieSuCA, former Assistant Secretary of Labor @WSpriggs, former NRLB member @SharBlock, and former DoL Chief Economist @hshierholz be considered

Under the Trump Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services has been staffed with allies of the health insurance industry. Under a progressive administration, HHS would be staffed with individuals who understand that healthcare is a human right.

For the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services, Data for Progress recommends that former Detroit Health Department Director @AbdulElSayed, former CMMS Administrator @DonBerwick, Representative @RepJayapal, and APHA Director @GeorgesBenjami7 be considered for the role.

Despite its critical functions, the Department of Housing and Urban Development has long been neglected by administrations of both parties. A progressive administration would staff HUD with individuals committed to universal housing.

For the position of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Data for Progress recommends that @RepChuyGarcia, Rep. @RashidaTlaib, @NLIHC President and former HUD official @DianeYentel, NLCHP Director @MariaFoscarinis, and Jackson Mayor @ChokweALumumba be considered.

Solving the climate crisis is going to require a radical change in how our society treats transportation. Under a progressive administration, the Dep. of Transportation would be staffed with individuals committed to environmentally-friendly transit and critical of car culture.

For the position of Secretary of Transportation, Data for Progress recommends that @T4America Director and ex-DoT Asst. Secretary @BethOsborneTA, @RepPressley, @RepBlumenauer, LA Metro CEO Phil Washington, and former Minneapolis Mayor @R_T_Rybak be considered.

The Department of Energy will play a crucial role in a progressive administration's efforts to respond to the climate crisis. The Department should be staffed and led by individuals committed to ending America's reliance on fossil fuels in favor of sustainable energy sources.

In order for the Department to play a crucial role in response to the climate crisis, Data for Progress recommends that Governor @JayInslee, Representative and clean energy businessman @RepAndyLevin, and Professor of Energy and former DoS Science Envoy
@Dan_Kammen be considered.

Under Donald Trump, the Department of Education, led by billionaire Betsy DeVos, has led an all-out war on public education and students from vulnerable backgrounds. Under a progressive administration, the department would be led by those committed to expanding public education.

For the position of Secretary of Education, Data for Progress recommends that NPEF Director @CarolBurris, former NJ Sec. of Higher Education @SecSmithEllis, Arizona State Superintendent @KathyHoffman_AZ, NEA President @Lily_NEA, and AFT President @rweingarten be considered.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has long been under attack by healthcare profiteers looking to sabotage the Veterans Health Administration. Under a progressive administration, the VA's crucial functions will be protected in the face of privatization attempts.

Data for Progress recommends that Rep. and VA Committee chair @MarkTakano, former @PNHP President and longtime VA official @CarolynClancyMD, former Asst. CFPB Director ( @CFPBMilitary) Holly Petraeus, and @SenDuckworth be considered for Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

The creation of the Department of Homeland Security in 2001 was a mistake, and during the Trump era the department's leadership has become even more draconian in its tactics, particularly with regards to how it treats immigrants.

Data for Progress recommends that former Asst. AG for Civil Rights @VanitaGuptaCR, former HUD Secretary @JulianCastro, Oregon Senator @RonWyden, and Rep. @PramilaJayapal be considered for the position of Secretary of Homeland Security.

Under Trump, the EPA has been staffed with allies of the fossil fuel industry wholly opposed to the agency's stated purpose of environmental protection. Under a progressive administration, the EPA will be staffed with individuals committed to environmental justice.

For the position of EPA Administrator, Data for Progress recommends that former WA Secretary of Ecology @MaiaBellon, former SE Regional EPA Administrator @HeatherMcTeer, CA Air Resources Board chair @MaryNicholsCA, trailblazing @RepAOC, and Governor @JayInslee be considered

The Ambassadorship to the United Nations is the most prestigious position in the State Department sans the Secretary of State and holding the post makes one one of the most prolific representatives of the United States on the world stage.

For the position of Ambassador to the UN, Data for Progress recommends former Rep. and Ambassador @TomPerriello, former DoS Policy Planning Staff member @NATSECHeather, @CIPolicy President and ex-UN Advisor @SalihBooker, and Rep. and Foreign Affairs Committee member @IlhanMN.

The SBA's affairs have long been ignored by administrations of both parties. But, as @JeffHauser and the team at @revolvingdoorDC like to point out, the SBA has a surprising amount of regulatory power and if used well could be a strong anti-consolidation tool for a prog. admin.

For the position of SBA Administrator, Data for Progress recommends Rep. and former small businessman @MarkPocan, pro-coop Jackson Mayor @ChokweALumumba, Federal Reserve of Atlanta president @RaphaelBostic, and former NEC advisor and community development expert @SameeraFazili.

The Office of Management and Budget has long been staffed with supporters of austerity hostile to deficit spending. In order for the US to implement a progressive recovery program post-COVID, OMB needs to be staffed with individuals unafraid of deficit spending.

For the position of OMB Director, we recommend progressive House Budget Committee members @RepJayapal, @JanSchakowsky, and @RepBarbaraLee as well as @EconomicPolicy's brilliant @joshbivens_DC and Gov. @JayInslee, who would bring a focus on climate policy to the role.

The position of National Security Advisor is one of the most crucial foreign policy positions in the federal government. Under a progressive administration, the National Security Advisor should be committed to multilateralism and skeptical of military intervention.

For the position of National Security Advisor, we recommend former W.H. Coordinator for the Middle East @Rob_Malley, ex- @FMEP President @MattDuss, ex-Deputy Chief of Staff to the Sec. of Defense @SashaNBaker, and former Sr. Advisor to the National Security Advisor @LorenRaeDeJ.

Republicans have made their opposition to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's existence loud and clear. Under a progressive administration, the CFPB's crucial functions will be protected and expanded.

For the position of CFPB Director, Data for Progress recommends FTC Commissioner/CFPB alum @ChopraFTC , former CFPB Senior Advisor @MH4OH, Rep. and former law professor @KatiePorterOC, ex-CFPB Senior Counsel @DeepakGuptalaw, and former SEC Commissioner Kara Stein.

The National Economic Council serves as the White House's principal forum for consideration of economic policy proposals. We need a progress at the helm of the forum supportive of deficit spending to guarantee a fair-recovery post-COVID.

For the position of NEC Director, we recommend former NEC Deputy Director and noted wealth tax supporter @LilyBatch, COC Member @BharatRamamurti, former Senate Budget Committee economist @StephanieKelton, an @ceprdc senior economist @DeanBaker13.
