Of a politically incorrect, firebrand, Hindutva leader from the Junglemahal. This is the story of Dilip Ghosh the MP from Medinipur & the State President of WB BJP. This is the story of one man who shook the entire Kolkata + Bhadrolok dominated politics of Bengal. THREAD BELOW.
1. Dilip Ghosh was born into a Bengali Sadgop family at Kuliana village near Gopiballavpur of Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal on 1st August, 1964. Born & brought up in the deprived region of the Junglemahal, Ghosh led a very humble life.
2. The son of a farmer, Ghosh didn't have a luxurious life. Neither did he was excellent at academics. But from his childhood he was a hard worker. This trait of his would help him very much and become his trademark as a politician.
3. In 1984 at the age of 20, he formally joined the RSS. This was the time when Hindutva politics was beginning to make noise in India as well as Bengal. This was also the time in WB when the Left was at it's peak of power. Political dissidents were murdered in daylight.
4. Political violence was most visible in the Junglemahal with the Left govt in continuous fight with the Maoists & CPI(M-L) cadre. Dead bodies would glorify the village roads of the Junglemahal. It was during this time that Ghosh bravely propagated the Hindutva ideology.
5. Dilip Ghosh's entry into politics was like baptism by fire. He bravely propagated Hindutva at a time & at a place when tyranny was the norm in Bengal. This showcased his perseverance, determination & dedication to the Hindutva movement.
6. For the next 15 years, Ghosh would continue as a RSS pracharak. The BJP started gaining steam in the 90s with the Babri demolition. It started making significant gain both in terms of vote & seat share in Bengal.
7. In 1999, Ghosh was made in-charge of RSS in Andaman & Nicobar Islands from 1999-2007. He also during this time worked as an assistant to former RSS chief K. S. Sudarshan. This 8 year long stint would give Dilip Ghosh a huge elevation in RSS & would change his life forever.
8. The 2014 Indian General election was historic. BJP formed the government at the centre with full majority, a feat no party achieved since 1984. Narendra Modi became the PM. BJP in WB won 2 LS seats of Asansol & Darjeeling. It's vote share went up to 17.02%.
9. In 2014, Ghosh was loaned into BJP and was appointed as the General Secretary of the West Bengal unit. The reason behind this was that the central leadership rightly believed that only a hard working organisation guy could create BJP WB from the scratches.
10. Dilip Ghosh happy to be back home started his job. And he started from his home, the Junglemahal. In 2014, the state govt was under the control of TMC. Mamata Banerjee was the tallest leader in the state. The people overwhelmingly supported her & her party.
11. But there were voices of dissent. The TMC govt was entangled with corruption & appeasement. A significant but silent revolution was happening in WB. Public support for her was slowly shifting. The BJP was becoming an attractive alternative for the people of WB.
12. In 2015, Ghosh was appointed as West Bengal State President of the BJP. This was the turning point in his life as well as for BJP WB. Ghosh was journeying the length & breadth of the state and working very hard to create a well functioning organisation.
13. In 2016 the Vidhan Sabha election happened. Due to immense rigging & still not that strong organisation of BJP, TMC won in a landslide. BJP won 3 seats out of 294. But there was a silver lining. Dilip Ghosh won from Kharagpur Sadar defeating a 7 time MLA from INC.
14. He became the voice of Hindutva & Junglemahal inside the WB Vidhan Sabha. He also took part & organised armed processions during Ramnavami & Durga Puja. The elites of Kolkata mocked him but his determination never decreased an inch. He knew that the mass supported him.
15. In September 2016, Ghosh went on a BJP-sponsored seven-day trip to USA, to highlight the oppression of the Hindus in West Bengal and infiltration of Muslims from Bangladesh. Infiltration & Muslim appeasement were his two weapons with which he ambushed the TMC govt.
16. In the meantime, many tall TMC leaders were switching sides to BJP. One of them was Mukul Roy. His coming to the BJP increased BJP's organisational & maneuvering capabilities. Dilip Ghosh was becoming the voice of the religious rural Bengal. A storm was coming.
17. The storm came in 2019. The TMC govt & the CM of WB mad with power declared that TMC would win 42/42 seats in WB and Banerjee would become PM of India. Dilip Ghosh gave a slogan that became rallying point for BJP WB, "19 e half, 21 e saaf".
18. The BJP's house in 2019 was strong. Organisation was now outstanding and BJP surprised everyone by winning 18/42 seats in Bengal. It was a political earthquake. Dilip Ghosh had the last laugh. People of Bengal had approved his politics. He himself won from Medinipur.
19. Since 2019, Ghosh has worked exponentially hard to strengthen BJP in Bengal and to portray BJP as the pallbearer of Poriborton in 2021 elections. His efforts have bore fruits.
20. BJP in WB is now the government in waiting with the Mamata govt failing Bengal during the Amphan & COVID crisis. BJP under Dilip Ghosh has successfully been able to galvanize Hindus in the state. With each passing day, Poriborton is looking more likely.
21. Dilip Ghosh is now the tallest opposition leader of WB and the next CM according to many political analysts and experts. One thing is certain. The humble but hardworking lad from the Junglemahal has come a long way and it is he who will write Bengal's destiny in the future.
