hey guys! this is gonna be a short thread of why the shirbert hug is superior to the kiss in my mind. i love both scenes, but the hug is my probably my favorite shirbert moment of all time.

FIRST OF ALL!! the conversation before the hug was just so sweet. it was probably like the nicest thing anne had ever said to him up to that point, and he really needed to hear that.
when anne sees gilbert begin to cry, you can see the heartbreak in her eyes. it hurts her so much to see him hurting.
anne goes with her instinct. she just had to be there for him. his pain caused her pain and the only thing she could think to do was share it with him.
THAT LOOK FROM AB! she killed this scene. anne didn’t really think before hugging him, she just had to. right after you can see this wave of nervousness, especially because physical contact was a bigger deal back then.
THE WAY HE GRABS ONTO HER!!!

honestly they both killed this scene. AB especially just..wow. like as soon as they hugged she could feel everything he was feeling because he let her.
anne realizes oh...i’m hugging gilbert. she finally processes, again hugging was a bigger deal than it is now. they had a HUGE moment of intimacy, being completely vunerable. idk how they didn’t realize their feelings sooner, cause this hug screams ILY lmao.
