A brief how& #39;s-this-going-to-work thread on calling games in a pandemic...as you know, we& #39;ll be in a studio with lots of monitors. The biggest one will show us what& #39;s called a neutral or clean feed, which is what the other team& #39;s crew will produce when the Jays are the visitors.
They& #39;ll add in their graphics with their announcers for their show, we& #39;ll add in ours for our show. Each home crew has been instructed to shoot a 50/50 game, meaning show the other team& #39;s players as much as you show yours so that the visiting team& #39;s show sees its players too.
In addition to the clean feed, each visiting team will have 1 camera for its own purposes, like showing one of its own players if the other team& #39;s crew is telling a story about one of their players that is going on quite long. Our director can cut to it at any time.
We& #39;ll also have access to other cameras that we will see in smaller monitors to the side of the big one - the scoreboard in the ballpark, a wide shot of the field to see defensive alignment, bullpens, etc, all to try to give us as much info about what& #39;s going on as possible.
We did a dry run tonight. Games may not always look and feel exactly like they do during a normal season, but thanks to a ton of hard work by our crew, and collaboration between all teams& #39; crews, it& #39;s going to be pretty close. And hey, it& #39;s baseball on TV. Just happy it& #39;s back.
