Here's my reviews of the fishing minigames in various video games that I played. I am only reviewing the fishing minigames, not the rest of the game: (1/?)

1) LoZ:LA (and switch remake) - 6/10. The 2d controls are odd esp when you could make it overhead. But gosh it's got adorable fucking graphics for the fish and Link so that's something

2) Stardew Valley - 11/10. Easily amongst the best, the little bar-behind-the-fish system is somehow immersive with the smallest elements possible. You feel like you're struggling with a bass. Throw in treasures, secret fish, bait AND tackle, and it's easy to fish all day

3) WoW - 5/10. Lots of fun in some spots, like in Legion, whereas used as cheap grindbait for other spots. Also this would be rated much lower if I could rate the writing but I promised I wouldn't

4) Yakuza 0 - 6/10, it's really frustrating and simplistic on the controls front, but also look at this axolotl and your day will instantly get better. Thank you

5) Animal Crossing (full series because it hasn't changed much) - 9/10. Gotta say the puns really make this one, what it lacks in controls it makes up for in adorable art and silly pure fun puns.

6) LoZ:OoT - 6/10. "I should be saving the world but since I can time travel why not fish" -Link

7) Dark Cloud - 3/10. Hey remember this game? No? Okay well it has kinda an absolute shit fishing game. The fish don't give a fuck. Sometimes they get stuck in a rock. This is a weird way to hold a swordfish too

8) LoZ:TP - 7/10. It was a pretty fun little thing to do and the fish had fun designs. Nothing to write home about but dang could be worse

9) Fantasy Life - 10/10. It had a decent little mini-struggle against some fish, and the fish are fantastical AND cute! And fishing comes with its own mini story! Very good, very wholesome.

10) LoZ:WW - 1/10. YO THE ONE FUCKING ZELDA THATS SET ON A FUCKING OCEAN AND ITS ALSO ONE OF ONLY A FEW ZELDAS WITHOUT A LEGIT FISHING MINIGAME, YOU CAN JUST THROW BAIT FOR A FUCKIN WEIRD FISHMAN TO GIVE YOU A MAP CHUNK. THE TRIUMPH FORKS BIT WAS FUNNY THO SO ONE POINT

11) FFXIV - 6?/10. I'm gonna be real with you I never got too far in this, because FFXIV just didn't tickle my fancy, sorry, but the fishing seemed pretty fun. I'll give this an unsteady 6 because I feel if I give it any lower a mob of angry lallafells will come knife me

12) LoZ:BotW - 8/10. Hehehehe lightning arrow go brrrrrr

I am just now realizing this whole thread woulda hit harder if I'd done the ratings in numbers of fish emoji like , so let that be a lesson to you all that there are no second chances in life

13) Minecraft

It's really hard to make it work right and it feels clunky and awkward and there's always a cow staring at me JUDGING, oh like YOU could fish any better you fu ckinG BOvoINE, I WILL HARBEST YOUR LEATHER DONT TEST ME,,,,

14) Terraria - 7/10. The fishing is not all that responsive and fun but the bait system is neat and when it rains you get goldfish walking around and that's neat!!

15) The Sims - 0/10, anyone who says they enjoy fishing in The Sims is probably a serial killer, imo. Idk why but I don't trust them

16) Amazon Trail - Ah, Oregon Trail's lesser-known sibling. It's just spear fishing and you do it now and then to eat, similar to the hunting minigame in Oregon Trail. Nothing too special. 5/10.

17) Jak And Daxter - 6/10, it feels less like fishing and more like DDR tbh??? Other than that it's fairly fun, and Daxter is there, so yeah

18) The pokemon series - 8/10. Fishing is satisfying as heck, but for half the games you don't even get the great rod until much later in the game, and fuck Magikarp. But gosh when you get a dratini in Gen I? That shit slaps

19) Sonic Adventure - 1000000/10. Big the Cat for president

20) Shovel Knight - 6/10, it was fun enough I guess but why is your hook an anchor????
