it's ~richtig und wichtig~ as we say in german to call out structural, systemic whiteness in fandom. and at the same time to recognise how racism and misogyny, queer/transmisia and ableism are embedded in our own cores. it's not the ~others~. it's us. but.
addressing systemic racism in fandom and claiming fandom is "populated only by ww" just so a specific claim sounds more nefarious isn't the same thing. one is critique, the other is instrumentalistion of misogyny
the whiteness of fandom is exhausting but it's critical to me that people are aware that this doesn't mean literally only ww exist onhere. it invisibilises the presense of BIPOC in fandom
this seems to be a super inconsequential thing, literal hair splitting. but if somebody's approach is to attribute toxic patterns to individuals rather than identifying systemic issues
it tells me they avoid accountability by pointing fingers at others. there is a big difference between people who are against "racists" and people who are against "racism". i find that an important distinction
