This is what EVERY company should be striving for now, and one of the many aspects of the company I love. Love or hate their products, you can’t deny that this action (assuming they follow through with their promise) will actually make a difference. https://twitter.com/tim_cook/status/1285550582200061952
Beyond the impact of just Apple doing this (which, being the world’s most valuable company is not insignificant), it also sends a strong message to the rest of the tech industry. Apple is hugely influential to the whole industry and the world at large.
Say what you will about Apple, but I believe that they do actually care about making the world a better place. There are many more examples of initiatives like this one, that actually try to make a difference.
And before anyone says “but they’re a corporation, their whole reason for existing is to make money.” ... Yes, their primary goal is to make money, but they can do that while also doing things like this that improve the world.
This notion that I see from some people, that all corporations are just greedy, soulless money-making machines, is both extremely cynical and simply not true for many companies.
Companies are comprised of people, and how they run their businesses is a reflection of what they most care about. So yes you have some companies with CEOs that only care about the money, but other companies like Apple, whose leadership also care about their impact on the world.
Tim Cook is not the true visionary leader Steve Jobs was, but from what I can tell he is a decent person who genuinely wants to improve the world.
Good god I didn’t intend for this thread to go on for so long.
TLDR: This is a great initiative, other companies need to follow their lead, and not all companies are the greedy and soulless machines that people assume they are.
