Things I wish I knew about LinkedIn while I was still on the job Market: A thread
A little background info: I've been on LinkedIn since 2014/ 2015 but only started using it "properly" in 2018.

I had just quit my job as an art dealer on cruise ships and was done with the work/travel combo (so I had thought)

I wanted stability, career, the whole shebang
Enter the job search:
I was home for about a month and a half when I decided I need to get a job. So I updated my LinkedIn profile(LOL barely though)
Started teaching English online and applying for jobs.
I was doing all the right things they say you should do (ie. reaching out to contacts, uploading an updated CV to LinkedIn, getting work published. Sharing links of published work) but I wasn't getting the results I wanted.

That's why I'm doing the thread,
1.The first thing I wish I knew about was automation and using industry "buzzwords" in my profile (I'll quote @duduonthedaily because she says it best)

Find words used most in your industry RIGHT NOW(not 2 years ago) and make sure they appear on your profile
That's because it increases your chance of appearing in searches. People rarely search for "Freelance writers" anymore, they want someone with experience in "digital content creation, SEO copy writing, conceptual writing" etc. Same appears in other industries
They don't want teachers, they want educators with experience in "personalised learning", "21st century skills", who "Provide nurturing/stimulating environments" blah blah buzzword.
If you do't believe me go look at the job description and requirements for a Mountessouri teacher
The second thing I wish I knew:
2. Making sure your current profile is created with "USER INTENT".
Your LinkedIn is not for your ego,it's for other people
Before you publish think; "what would I search for if I were looking for someone who does what I want to do?"
