The real news is not the reconfiguring of parishes or new powers for laymen. (Or more likely, lay women.) It's that the FrancisVatican has again declared a winner in the Catholic Civil War.

You know, the one we're not supposed to admit ever happened.

As with every other aspect of Catholic life (cf: contemplative nuns) it's only making official what has been the VaticanTwoist practice throughout NuChurch.

The real issue is that he's removing the recourse that "conservatives" had to say, "Well, Rome says no."
Rome no longer says no & no longer refuses to take sides. Once again, FrancisVatican is helpfully clarifying the nature of the New Paradigm, declaring the winner in the Civil War and ending the state of Cold War in which we can all pretend there is no schism.

There's a schism...
and now, thanks to the aggression of this helpfully clarifying pontificate, we have no choice but to face up to the reality that has been hiding behind the gauze curtains for 50 years: there are two religions operating in the institution.

Or at least, there were until...
March 2013. Now we are being told that the "hermeneutic of rupture" was indeed the real purpose of Vatican II and that there is indeed a New Church that was "sung into being" at that time. All who are happy about it are welcome.
