There has been a lot of engagement on the topic of re-entry to Japan for non-Japanese nationals, some decent comments. Some daft stuff. Thought I would respond by thread to clarify some points, add some resources & hopefully bring like-minded people together. #Japan

First & foremost, I would like to emphasise this is *not* about tourism/travelling, it’s about the right to return to your country of residence regardless of nationality. 

Japan has been my country of residence for nearly 30 years and I know many are in the same boat. #Japan

As someone committed to Japan’s future, I recognise the impact this will have on individuals who have dedicated OR intend to dedicate their life to being in & contributing to Japan. This extends to businesses & companies that may consider opening offices here. #Japan #reentry

Being separated from family & friends & having to choose between them or your place of work and live during a crisis is hard. It’s legitimate to feel disappointed by the restrictive re-entry practices and to be worried about the broader impact it will have on Japan’s reputation.

I have spoken with politicians, bureaucrats & business leaders about this - many were unaware of this situation & many are troubled by it, some aren’t but it’s clear there’s a lack of awareness within the Japanese community - even if it’s evident within ours! #Japan

Many have been discussing if other countries have similarly strict policies around re-entry, & I am by no means an expert on this! I did read somewhere tho that Japan is the only G7 country that has a re-entry policy that doesn't differentiate b/w foreign residents & visitors.
