Not surprising at all but interesting to read Russia Report so baldly state that nobody in government is actually in charge of protecting British democracy.
If anything the next paragraph is even more damning.

Having just written an entire book on how easy it is to undermine and break the rules of British democracy I'm not at all surprised by this, but it's remarkable to see it so clearly stated in an official report
Also this report *really* doesn't say 'Russia wasn't involved in the Brexit referendum'. It says 'we don't know'. And says pretty much same thing about Scottish indyref.

Yet again anonymous briefings to Telegraph will frame how this is received. Yay to undermining democracy!
The report does talk about how Russians have access to British politicians - overwhelmingly the Conservatives who rely heavily on Russian donors. But [redacted] so...
One very useful proposal is to mimic the US's Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) which forces those lobbying on behalf of foreign interests to disclose this. British lobbying 'rules' really are a joke
