Oh dear! This went viral. Lots of responses saying: 'Well, what should we do, then?'. Firstly, why is it the West who should 'do' something? Surely, the many Muslim-majority countries who have strong ties with China are better placed to use their influence to 'do' something. https://twitter.com/AmmarKazmi_/status/1285342234838282245
Secondly, I think there needs to be a realisation that there isn't a whole lot that can be done. That sounds awful but, short of launching a cataclysmic world war, this cannot be stopped by sheer force. We live in a deepening multi-polar world: China is a global power.
Thirdly, I'd suggest starting by 'doing something' in areas where we can have real influence: the crisis in Yemen being the most obvious. The UK is working with Saudi Arabia in inflicting mass death, disease, and famine in Yemen. This is hardly ever spoke about.
Lastly, as with Syria and other places, we can support Uyghur refugees and ensure that they are provided with safety and security.
