Something about Never Have I Ever sat really uncomfortably for me but I’m still not sure what it was. There’s something about “yaaas brown girl power” moment rn that is really politically-divorced/ and making a swathe of conservative media under the guise of progressiveness https://twitter.com/sharminultra/status/1284872978950488066
Leaning on the seemingly ~traditional values~ of non-white cultures in order to present media that is super conservative, hoping for little backlash or critical analysis because it’s *their culture*
Rich ppl, but make them brown! Army; but make it brown! Capitalism, but make it brown!
And we eat it up (I watch it anything w a brown person tbh) because we are so thirsty for representation at any cost.
