I'm thinking of pitching to Netflix a comedy show, like Veep or The Office but about a Maths Department at a medium size university. Everybody is is at the edge of burnout and becoming histeric with one disaster after the other. Strikes, Shanghai ranking results, pandemic,...
a scandal about a paper published in Nature with cooked data, ... The Director is depressed and wants to resign after new government directives that are completely ridiculous. He tries but he can't do it because always something comes up and he gets interrupted.
There is the old white male prof that is terribly politically incorrect, and the mid-age white male prof that is a star in his field and a total ass. The white female professor that is sweet and kind to the point of stupidity that tries to compensate for her jackass colleagues,
There's the strong black female prof that has seen so much shit but she keeps it together. There's the latinx assist-prof that is homesick and trying to get tenure but everytime shit happens. There's the chinese postdoc that is super productive and I have no idea how he does it,
There's the white female assist prof that fights for feminism and is too smart for the job. There's the male assis prof that is a great teacher, is calm and kind and is everyone's psychologist. Then there are the relatable PhD students,
the 1gen student that is super naive, and the one whose parents are faculty members, the one that is none of that and she is really smart and realizes what a shitshow the dept is (not me, unfortuntely). The one male PhD student that just had a baby and is sleep deprived
Oh, I forgot the junior prof that idealizes academia as the daughter of a 1st gen and is constantly dissapointed. But like CONSTANTLY.
Ok, so, did I miss someone? Which one do you think is me?? :D
