A lovely pattern on this jumping spider (Habronattus pyrrithrix, I think?). Bold red color under the eyes.
More spiders! Many spiders stay in one place, so it's fun to watch them over weeks. This crab spider (female?) hangs out in this coreopsis plant. I think it had babies because about 10 days ago I found 7 tiny crab spiders on the same plant.
I hadn't seen the big crab spider in maybe a week (I think?) but today I found it having grabbed a strange snack -- some kind of caterpillar/larva molting? There are at least 8 of these weird molting-caterpillar things, most are surviving.
Here's one of the tiny crab spiders. It tried to flee on foot, but gave up shortly and decided to fly instead. The posture (butt up in the air) lets the spider cast a thread into the air. Sometimes it flies away on this thread w/ physics magic (kiting/ballooning)
