Some of the dads brought yard tools. I think the moms still outnumber them, though. One mom is instructing everyone in the crowd to find a buddy, stick with them, and stay safe.
March starting. They have bicyclists and motorcyclists helping lead/guard the crowd.
A couple hundred people from the mom/dad groups have joined an already sizable crowd at the JC.
Group big enough for two different chants on either end. Speaker says she hasn't seen crowd this big since 4th of July.
Started by thanking all the moms and dads who came out tonight. Huge energy in this crowd.
Earlier this evening I caught up with a couple of the moms who were here last night. Courtney and Heather say they got hit with pepper balls.
"But it's nothing compared to childbirth."
"But it's nothing compared to childbirth."
No fence in front of the fed courthouse tonight.
Crowd singing "We shall overcome" while holding cellphone flashlights up. "Fed goons out of PDX" is projected on Justice Center.
Protesters telling crowd to think of the late John Lewis. "He was tear gassed and never quit."
Crowd yelled "rest in power."
Crowd yelled "rest in power."
Crowd moving a bit.
Marching up Madison away from the parks/JC.
Absolutely massive crowd. It took almost 5 minutes for everyone to march past me on 6th.
Made it to Pioneer Courthouse Square, then turned on Yamhill heading east.
Fists in the air.
At the Apple Store.
End of a moment of silence in front of the murals on the Apple store. Crowd was asked to yell names of those lost to police brutality.
Turning onto 3rd, heading back toward Justice Center.
Back at the federal courthouse. Graffiti + supplies. Milk, water, umbrella and, curiously, cans of black beans.

Banging on PPB doors.
Walked past the IRS building and some people saw a couple federal officers and started yelling at them to go home. One officer flashed a peace sign before disappearing back inside.
"Feds go home!"
Banging on the boarded up sides of the courthouse. See some umbrellas up. The moms also went into the crowd there. People now yelling "Go mamas!"
Peeling off some plywood. Now whaling on what's left.
Lots of spicy air. Fire burning at site of former elk statue. Someone near me started blaring "Fu** tha police" from pickup.
Surreal vibe right now.
Sounds like they're shooting lots of pepper balls. More flash bangs.
Crowd on 4th, feds on 3rd.
Group keeps trying to get closer, using umbrellas as shields. Feds react swiftly and loudly.
Also appears to be a standoff near Salmon and 3rd.
A LOT of flashbangs before this vid.
Very quiet for a minute.
Then this group retreated around other side of police bureauone guy yelled at them about the viral video showing officers strike a Navy veteran the other night.
Meanwhile back at 3rd and Main...
Putting up a fence? And shooting more pepper balls.
3rd and Salmon. Officers launch CS gas, people kick back, pepper balls ensue
Creeping around the 3rd and Main side. Appears feds retreated. People cheered, then started throwing things at building.
To which feds are responding by shooting pepper through hole in plywood.
I'm leaving downtown now, but check out this video of someone pouring water on one of the cannisters. That stuff is hot. A few minutes after this, someone else went to pick it up and it was still too hot to hold.
