thread of tips to saving money for travel:

1) incognito browsing is essential!!! https://twitter.com/maryzellena/status/1285352154174291969
2) Do ALL price research on your regular browser THEN when you’re ready to book use incognito mode!
3) SKYSCANNER: the website checks across all airlines for their rates then compiles a lost for you to choose from. It also shows you the cheapest dates to fly
HOPPER: the website checks the rates for hotels in the area that you’re looking, also has a smililar interface for showing you the cheapest days, they also do flights and cars but I only use it for checking rate of hotels
If you’re traveling on an airline that doesn’t include bags with your flight pack as light as possible. Boardingblue is luggage company that offers various luggage catering to different airlines carry on sizes
EXPEDIA: is THE WORST I work in a hotel and I have seen Expedia literally charge more after their taxes and fees! Use Expedia to find hotels then BOOK DIRECT! A lot of companies also offer discount a for booking direct and also offer packages for food and/or parking!
PRICELINE: IS GREAT for last minute hotel room deals, I’ve seen guests book for $70/night literally walk in 30 mins after making their reservation!
WHATEVER hotel you’re staying join their rewards even if you’re only staying one time. Some hotels offer discounts for members and first time stays. Marriott literally offers up to 5% discount on their best rate just for being a member.
Car Rental: Before I get into savings I’m gonna start with some basics A credit card makes it 10x easier ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE UNDER 25 YES you can rent as young as 18 *& have a license* DEPENDS on the company AND the region you’re in. Just call around and ask if you’re not sure.
If you are under 25 most companies charge a young renters fee. USAA and AAA both offer waivers at SOME rental companies if you book with a discount code. During certain times of the year companies might have a student discount waiving the fee as well.
Always check the deals section of any car rental company see if any of them apply to your needs AAA offers like 10% off the base and weekly rentals (5 or more days for most companies is considered weekly) usually have some sort of discount built into the rate *price w/o young fee
Used the same dates for Enterprise to show the differences in price when a young renters fee is involved. Hertz’ base rate is generally higher in my experience. Sometimes going to enterprise WITH the young renters fee still saves me a few buck plus they’ll drop the car off!
If you’re over 25 it’s significantly easier to shop around because there’s way less to think about. However, @Enterprise is truly the best as long as you’re over 25
Most car insurance companies cover your rental if there are any damages, call and check before declining! However if they do cover I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH IF YOU HAVE CAR INSURANCE DO NOT BUY THE INSURANCE THAT THE COMPANY IS OFFERING! Also DO NOT crash the rental!
HOSTEL: here’s a tip for booking with hostels if you don’t prefer a hotel https://twitter.com/kirstyaanderson/status/1285523450984046598?s=21 https://twitter.com/kirstyaanderson/status/1285523450984046598
