LRT OKAY I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THIS and most of them are âLWJ goes as far towards villain/absolutely fucking neutral as he can while still remaining âgoodâ enough 1. To raise sizhui/protect the juniors 2. To match WWXâ Both of which are people, not fixed moral points
What I love about post-(WWXâs)resurrection LWJ is how you get to see this (in novel canon at least, Iâm still not far in CQL!). He goes from the rule follower/enforcer to fully dictating his own independent moral code (such as it is) and also giving zero, ZERO fucks.
At this stage, WWX worries about appearance (ie social consequences) and ethics. This is lucky I guess, bc LWJ gives every indication that he is perfectly content siding with WWX, even if WWX possibly possessed (& possibly murdered) Mo Xuanyu.
iirc, in novel canon WWX has in fact killed some Lan cultivators? (I really need to reread, agh). Lan Zhanâs father imprisoned his mother for a murder. Lan Zhanâs brother killed JGY (admittedly... complicated). LWJ takes WWX home and...naps with him....?
The point being (if thereâs a point here?), the only reason LWJ doesnât go full villain â while still fully aware of and admiring what is righteous, but quite willing to ignore it â is because Wei Ying holds him back simply by not being all that evil. And I think thatâs neat
