#Choose Your Battles

Today is #Chooseday so I decided to go with this thread..

There is Elevation in not engaging. Sometimes it is not evident but some battles just don't need you to engage in and in so doing, you reserve your energy and strength for the battle that matters
I would like to reference a scripture for this

1 Samuel 17 [David & Goliath]

This is an account of David who defeated Goliath who was tormenting the Israelites (God's chosen people/nation)...

David was sent by his father Jesse to take some refreshments to his brothers who
were in the battle ground to fight against the Philistines actually 1 giant Philistine in the form of Goliath..

When David got to the camp of the Israelites, he found all these warriors and generals afraid to go up against this giant but he was NOT AFRAID..

As he got to the
camp, Goliath was busy with his torment and David heard what the man said about God and the things he was saying about God's chosen nation and this "annoyed" him..
He asked the men that were there what reward was there for a man that would defeat this Giant...
He was told that
He was told that he would get the princess and would be exempt from taxes...
As David was still "meditating" on this reward that stood before him if he defeats Goliath
Here comes his brother Eliab [1 Samuel 17: 28] and with ANGER starts to lambast David about how he has an evil
heart and only came there to watch them suffer [Paraphrased]

Verse 29 - 30 are key to this thread...

David "TURNED" away from his brother and ASKED once more about the reward that a man who defeated Goliath would get and he "meditated" on it..

Now this means, before
David could face up to Goliath, there was a battle brewing within the camp, David against his brother Eliab. This was not a minor disagreement but rather a battle that had HISTORY as David was the youngest of his father's sons and Eliab the Eldest but if you read 1 Samuel 16 you
will realise that God chose David over Eliab when Samuel went to anoint a new king for Israel..

People will hate you, attack you and call you names and such because God has placed something in you. Because God has chosen to manifest his Glory through you

BUT if you choose right
you will realise that those people are not on your level.

David chose to ignore this battle with his brother and focus on the "bigger" picture (excuse the pun)
because he understood a few things

1. He was a man after God' heart, meaning he was more concerned about what God
thought and not what people thought

2. He knew that there was a bigger cause here [1 Samuel 17:29] than settling past battles

3. A house divided CANNOT STAND..

By Choosing his battle right and not engaging with his brother Eliab and rather saving his energies for this bigger
cause, David went on to defeat Goliath and was now elevated to another level...

By focusing on the bigger picture, he took care of both what was BEHIND him and what was BEFORE him. David was elevated to a level that even his brother Eliab would not dream of challenging him
ever again.
THERE IS ELEVATION IN NOT ENGAGING..

This #chooseday, choose right and focus on the bigger picture..
