I don’t think this analogy is a good one, so I am going to give you a better analogy. https://twitter.com/joelreymont/status/1285297732576518148
Think of Ethereum as an old city. It’s made up of low rise houses and narrow roads and has become overcrowded and conjested. Think of Cosmos and Polkadot as new cities with high rises and wide streets.
Life in Ethereum city has become somewhat frustrating because of the conjestion and high costs of living/doing business. As inhabitants of the old city, you previously didn’t have much choice in terms of relocating.
Sure you could have moved to EOS city or TRON city but you didn’t like the government there. However with Cosmos and Polkadot now built and bridges coming up, you now have a choice as the governance and belief system there is more similar to your own.
At the same time, Ethereum is being reconstructed to eventually have wide streets and tall buildings but you have to wait and put up with the reconstruction. But you know eventually it will look like Cosmos or Polkadot city.
Some people who are frustrated with Ethereum will decide to leave for Cosmos and Polkadot. It’s already happening. Others will leave but maintain some roots in Ethereum city in the hope that they can get the best of both worlds.
Many others will decide that they like Ethereum and don’t want to leave. They grew up there and have their friends and family there, so they will put up with the reconstruction. And that is totally fine.
The migration to Cosmos and Polkadot starts to create a vibrant ecosystem and soon even people and business in other countries (non-blockchain developers) start to take notice. Cosmos and Polkadot offers incentives for them to move over (grants).
When Ethereum’s reconstruction is finally done, some of the migrants may decide to move back or they may remain in Cosmos/Polkadot. People from other cities/countries may decide to move into the new Ethereum. Ethereum will also have its own organic population/business growth.
Eventually, Ethereum, Cosmos and Polkadot and any relevant Blockchains that haven’t been hollowed out will all be interconnected. People will be able to travel freely and do business with one another seemlessly.
Ethereum might stay the biggest and most prosperous city or they might be replaced by another city. Eventually the basic infrastructure of these cities are going to look quite similar but they will have unique communities and governance systems.
