So what actually is a Deepfake?
Merriam-Webster defines it as “...a video that has been edited using an algorithm to replace the person in the original video with someone else (especially a public figure) in a way that makes the video look authentic.”

The ‘fake’ in Deepfake is transparent; they’re not real.
The 'deep' in 'deepfake' is a bit murkier, and is likely related to a process called 'deep learning.'
We are talking about AI technology that uses machine learning and neural networks.

There are currently no laws that regulate Deepfakes or their disclosure/use.
Deepfake content online is doubling every six months. And they’re becoming more & more difficult to detect. Worries about weaponization and impact on society is growing.

Deepfakes have also been used to attack unsuspecting people. There is a broad range in using them to create fake celebrity pornography, all the way to something like the link listed below.

Deepfakes have even been used in regards to the moon landing.
Whether the moon landing was real vs faked is another topic entirely.

Making a convincing Deepfake does require a certain level of skill.

Now back to K. Harris. I am in firm belief that her recent appearance is in fact the work of a deepfake.
The side by side still pictures help sell this idea. Whoever filled in for Harris was certainly more expressionate & thus caused this Deepfake to be less convincing.

You can be the judge of that.
Here’s a deepfake involving Barack Obama. I personally wouldn’t credit Buzzfeed as a credible news source, so to each their own.
