7 things that made me, and probably you too, love SKAM; a thread

𝟏. 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒇𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚

even though there are many moments in SKAM that are not common in every teenager's life i still felt this sense of "reality". almost all the actors were actually tees, most of them inexperienced actors. the plot was also common it talked about cheating, drugs, school, friendship

everything felt very real and i could actually see myself in many of those situations, having the same doubts and fears. the fact that the show made me feel seen many times is one of the things that contributed to me not wanting to ever end

𝟐. 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒔𝒖𝒃𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒔

everyone that watched SKAM knows that it talks about very important and sometimes taboo subjects, not only talked about but also gently showed you those situations being solved and gave us advice

religion, sexual assault, internalized homophobia... it's one of the few shows that talked about so many difficult and important subjects that i believe actually succeeded in sending a good message. i feel like julie, the creator, spent great time in researching about everything

and doing her best to represent each moment and worrying about how it would be viewed by the audience, i know that she missed some things and certain moments were poorly written but i think that for the most part the intention was there and she did a very good job

𝟑. 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒚

SKAM was never supposed to be a huge success, their intention was to just make one more show for norwegian teens that had good messages but the quality of the show was so good that the world found a way to watch it too

but even though the show was amazingly beautiful it was also very simple. most of the times the actors used their own clothes, filmed in their own houses... everything was really a small project that everyone put their hearts into and helped and made it very special

it made me feel like they really became a family while trying to make it work with a small budget. in the bloopers we can see that julie made iman cry by telling her how much she loved her and would miss everyone

it just shows how close everyone were/are and that everything about SKAM was very special. also seeing the actors using the clothes their characters wore is always a blessing

𝟒. 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒔

i am crazy about aesthetically pleasing things and SKAM did an astonishingly good job in this department. everything from the colors to the camera angles and the places they filmed in is perfect for me. the atmosphere is calm and very neighborhoody

the clothes the characters wore gave them personality, the colors of the scenes, the direction and even the simple, meaningless dialogue they sometimes had (which brings us back to the 1st topic because they had such normal and meaningless conversations sometimes,

exactly like me and my friends) before the actual scene began, the contemplative shots and how the music works perfectly for each scene... it all just comes together to create a beautiful work of art

𝟓. 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆

this is also one of the biggest reasons as to why i love the show. the characters are likable, the universe is well written even if you don't like some of the developments, the characters are like real people with real teenage flaws, and they have their own little things

and mannerisms that just makes you love them and wanting to see how they will continue to grow (let's just pretend that william doesn't exist okay?) if you pay enough attention to the details you can see small things that make each moment special

how isak had a favorite pillow and when he met even he would give his favorite pillow for even to sleep in, how vilde would pretend to be sweet to hide the problems she had at home, how eva was portrayed as lonely almost her entire season just by having distant shots of her

sitting alone and many other things. the attention to the details, specially on season 3, is amazing and even with some flaws and poorly made writing decisions the value of their successful choices is not diminished

𝟔. 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑

i love it when a show creates not only great love stories but also great friendship stories. our whole journey starts because of a friendship, eva befriends noora and slowly and organically befriends the rest of the group forming the "girl squad" and i think it's beautiful

each character had they ups and downs throughout the 4 seasons and sometimes they were apart from their friends but the show never failed to show us how important they were for each other, the whole point of the show was always to see the light at the end of the tunnel

always to show how you can solve your problems and how you should always try to be with who you love because "people need people" and for me it was so important to see so many meaningful and beautiful friendships

they were always there supporting each other, giving advice and even when they fought they always managed to apologize and forgive

𝟕. 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒕 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆

of course there probably are other shows who came up with the concept of making social media accounts for fictional characters first but the way SKAM did it was exceptional. it was very innovative and very well done. we would see a picture and be excited as to how

that picture happened and if we would see it in the next episode, how they would give us an insight by posting screenshots of conversations between the characters, there were some things about them you only new if you followed their social media and saw the texts

it just made us feel included and it was amazing to experience all that content aside from the actual episode

* meeting the royal family, william and kate (2018)

* gaining several (7) remakes all over the world cause everyone wanted a piece of it
