Nobody asked me, but I’m going to tell you my thoughts on teaming up with people of vastly different politics in order to defeat Trump in 2020. These people include Never Trumpers, conservative politicians like Kasich, commentators like Bill Kristol and David Frum, etc.

If you go back to season 2 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy’s vampire boyfriend Angel lost his soul and became the evil Angelus. He was the Big Bad of that season, which culminated in a plot to suck the earth into a hell dimension.

Spike, a vampire ally of Angelus and a nemesis of Buffy, approaches Buffy with a plan to defeat Angelus. Buffy, ever skeptical of his motives, asks him why he would help her, a vampire slayer, defeat another vampire.

Spike responds that while he is still an evil vampire, he rather likes earth the way it is, especially people because they walk around like Happy Meals on legs. Spike’s been faking his need to be in a wheelchair and so Angelus pays no attention to him, making his deception easy.

So while Buffy is disgusted to work with Spike, she does it to vanquish the larger evil, knowing that they will return to their previous antagonistic relationship after. Together they conquer Angelus and Buffy sends him, her true love, to the hell dimension, closing the portal.

With the folks mentioned in the first tweet of this thread, we should work with them but keeping aware of who they are and what they will do after the immediate objective has been completed. And who knows how they may change in the process.
