I& #39;ve been seeing in places the fear that Star Trek: Lower Decks is gonna be more Rick & Morty than Trek. And sure, I can see thinking that from afar--

but now having seen a couple of eps, a more thematic comparison I would make is Parks & Rec?
unlike Ricky & Morty, the jokes don& #39;t hinge on "how dare you hope from better from this person, don& #39;t you know people exist to let you down??"
tonally, I was struck with the exact opposite -- the punchlines didn& #39;t really ever come at the character& #39;s expense, which feels rare in comedy, much less comedies aimed ostensibly at adults.
the jokes usually hinge on people pleasantly surprising each other, when they AREN& #39;T accidentally running each other through with bat& #39;leths.

the whole crew is just ADORABLE. I& #39;m fond of every single one of those dumb weirdos.
anyway, I get the initial cynicism, but I dunno, wouldn& #39;t it be fun to just be wrong for once? wouldn& #39;t that just a be a great break from the mundane misery of our current hellscape???
