Toronto's situation right now cannot wholly be put down to bad management, although it is clearly a factor. The club could not have logistically prepared for Covid-19 and RL is not sufficiently big enough in this country to move the goalposts re: visa issues etc.
I personally support Toronto being readmitted to Super League in 2021 with, at most, a 6 point deduction for ultimately throwing the 2020 season. If there are no implications, it will only fuel those who would , short-sightedly, criticise Toronto regardless of what they did.
I am also deeply disappointed to read that the Championship and League 1 will not resume this season, although I ultimately understand the reasons behind it. Even if it had resumed, a lack of promotion to Super League would have rendered the Championship season pointless.
Turning to the positives, we will have the Super League season underway in two weeks time and the RLWC 2021 schedule gets released tomorrow. We still have a good 18 months to sell Rugby League as best we can before the World Cup. Toronto in 2020 quickly needs to become a blip.
