Call me a dope if you will, but having been raised to always consider those who have less than you, and reaching out for them when possible, it baffled me upon coming into adulthood how all the adults who taught me this are, themselves, more prone to looking the other way. ->
But it makes sense, reading this thread. We've been taught to be selfish for generations because our very society is cracking and oozing old poisonous traditions onto a growing populace.

We just can't depend on the leadership anymore, and so feel we can't trust anyone. ->
And even though they strongly deny it, I've noticed what's become the Republican Motto, and Motto of the Wealthy. "Profits Before People."

So of course the average American citizen is going to look out for only themselves, under that rule. 'Cause why would anyone else help us?
