I’m beyond disgusted to hear one of the main writers for Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise of the Tomb Raider - Rhianna Pratchett thinks it’s any sight of okay to degrade femininity like this within this era. (1/7)
Mentioning the fact she only brought in Lara’s femininity to the story as a reluctant afterthought is horrific and a huge representation as to why a large portion of the fan base are disappointed with reboot Lara. (2/7)
When I look at this image, I don’t see a pair of boobs. I see a powerful heroic woman, writing her own destiny and driving her own narrative in life. Rihanna Pratchett, you do not need to be flat-chested woman in order to be respected in this world. (3/7)
There was confidence within Lara Croft. Never once did she ever become a ‘promiscuous woman’ or use her sexuality to degrade. She was an empowering feminine icon. The complaint against Classic Lara, was her beauty - that honestly seems to stem personally from within them. (4/7)
Rhianna’s influence that empowerment comes from masking themselves with masculine qualities as much as they can in order to be ‘respected’ is literally destructive. To the fans, any feminine identifying person out there - and the brand of what Tomb Raider once represented. (5/7)
I’m DONE with this entire narrative that Lara was popular because of the ‘male-gaze’. Lara Croft was ground-breaking and broke many stereotypes through the gaming industry that you don’t have to just be a damsel in distress who needs to be saved. (6/7)
I can only hope going forward the writers will have more respect for feminine qualities and not to degrade them any further. We invest our time in Tomb Raider to envision what it would be like to become a heroine with great moral values, not for pornographic material. (7/7)
