1. So someone, well meaning, recently reached out to me & asked my why my twitter feed seemed to always be so cynical. This person was well meaning & I consider it a good faith question and I wanted to speak on it publicly as it is a common assertion I hear regarding my Twitter.
2. I am not a cynical person, in fact, if I was, My twitter wouldn’t even exist. Not only would my Twitter not exist, but I also wouldn’t still be in ministry and definitely wouldn’t be invested in educating white people abt the exhausting subject of ethnic reconciliation.
3. If I was a cynical person, I would absolutely not be a counselor , and I wouldn’t seek to provide soul care for people who have experienced racial and/or spiritual trauma. Cynicism would say, “the hell with it all!”. I personally believe My twitter isn’t cynical, it’s hopeful.
4. In my introductory pinned tweet video, I make it clear that I use this medium to raise awareness primarily about racial trauma & spiritual abuse. These are sad & depressing topics, but I extend hope to those who’ve experienced them, not hopelessness.
5. At the end of the day, I think how one views my tweets speaks to perspective. To those who have experienced racial trauma or spiritual abuse in the church, I think my tweets encourages them that they aren’t alone. To those who want here “peace peace”, I can appear cynical.
6. Look, I’m a happy guy. I love to laugh & my life is marked by joy, even if that joy has been hard won & has required brutal battles. The moment I become cynical is the moment, imo, where I would have to retire from being a soul care provider/counselor. Hope is my ministry.🙂❤️
