yall know i'm queer af and i love the gays to death but sometimes the insistence on certain mythological/historic figures being lgbtq.... drives me mad
obviously when it comes to mythology it is up to your interpretation but when people say 'artemis was a lesbian' it does not mean that there is any, and i mean ANY, text explicitly supporting that interpretation.
male figures in greek mythology were allowed to fuck men, bc normal men in hellenic greece were allowed to fuck men (while also having a wife). there is no evidence that women were allowed the same freedom.
in fact, quite the opposite. the men at the time condemned sapphic love as a perversion and mental illness.

this is why apollo was allowed to desire (young, male) hyacinthus but there are no epic love stories between female gods and other women.
also! the men of that time saw women as objects of desire; scheming, beautiful creatures who infected men with erotic madness. women weren't lovERS they were lovEES.
on another note anyone who says anne lister was definitively a lesbian or a trans man is talking out they ass. there's evidence for both. she's dead, just remember her as a cool ass lady-lovin writer.
tw holocaust mention
and on a tangentially related note, can people please stop bringing up anne frank as an 'iconic bisexual'. she was a young girl who died completely tragically, she's not your gay icon.
in general i really hate how people talk about anne frank but the gay icon thing specifically really pisses me off.
also i just realised i forgot to add

tw homophobia

i rly hope that filters this thread properly
