We set up as a 4-1-4-1 or 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 with Winks and Lo Celso's positioning varying. Some examples of shape are shown below. Often there was a lot of space between our midfield and back line Winks was poor off the ball with some questionable positioning and decision making
Example: Barnes and Perez tried to occupy to space between the lines in the CB-FB channels with narrow positioning. Sissoko is too slow to see Barnes and cant make the interception. Winks is too focused on Perez and doesn't communicate with Son and they end up very close together
A common move for Leicester was to have Barnes and Perez drop into space, dragging Aurier or Davies out of position, mostly Aurier. They then looked to play the wing back into space who made the run
Simple and effective move that Leicester did over and over and some of their best chances came from it, forcing an excellent save from Lloris. Less space between the lines and better communication with the midfielders to cover across sorts this
Firstly, this pass from Kane through to Son was amazing. But this image is a good example for showing our two units, the front four who lead the fast breaks and the defensive unit.
We were excellent on the counter and have the players to do so, although GLC needs to improve in this aspect, I'll talk about him later. This is the counter for the 2nd goal and is a perfect coaching example of making runs on the counter and not just running in straight lines
Here was an earlier counter where Kane was behind play but sprinting to get there, Lucas was less so despite starting in the same place. This is an example of where GLC needs to do more and where you'd expect Dele to excel and probably end up at the back post to a central run
A small note on the second goal, this bit of deceleration from Lucas is crucial. It plants Justin and allows space for the pass through to Kane, otherwise Justin blocks it. I'm not Lucas's biggest fan because under Poch he wasn't great but Jose's style plays to his strengths
This is what happened when we attacked an organised defence and is something we need to get way better at. We get stuck in a 3v4 out wide with GLC being the outlet, meanwhile Kane is isolated in the box and we don't have anything on
GLC had a decent game, but his frustration showed and wasn't effective enough on the counter. The things he was trying just weren't coming off and was unfortunate at times. He led the team in pressures and tackles though.
Sissoko and Winks meanwhile failed to make a tackle between them and don't suit the midfield roles they've been given. This is a passmap of both midfielders, only passing the ball from the opposition half 16 times. Winks' range of passing is useful for counters but that's it
This is the 3rd goal, it felt like the chance had gone but it is possible that Harry Kane is back. He was excellent today but needed to be brought off earlier I thought, especially when we were happy seeing out the match.
Overall a very tidy victory. Lloris saved us from conceding and there are a few issues to be ironed out and improved. Bringing in the right players this summer is crucial and continuing to be effective on the counter https://twitter.com/GriffinFtbl/status/1285279647735980032
Also I know the images would be a lot better with some arrows and stuff but I was being lazy but will do next time
