As Acting DHS official Ken Cuccinello tries vainly to justify his ID-less goons attacking crowds and snatching people off the street in Portland (and perhaps Chicago soon), would people like a bit of background on this failed Virginia politician?
Okay, there seems to be interest, so...
Before becoming the Acting (e.g., unconfirmed) Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, Cuccinelli was a state Senator, and then the Attorney General, in Virginia.
He then ran for governor, but lost to Terry McAuliffe, a weak opponent.

It seems Cuccinelli's record as AG did not win him many fans. For many reasons.
Like his multi-year quest for records of a climate scientist who used to work at @UVA. Under a dubious legal rationale (sound familiar?), he brought the case up to the VA Supreme Court--and lost.

Why? Because Cuccinelli is a climate change denier, with a minor obsession with a former UVA scientist (who had since moved to Penn State).
So to harass him, the AG pursued a legal battle against his state's flagship public university. And lost. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/virginia-politics/post/va-supreme-court-tosses-cuccinellis-case-against-u-va/2012/03/02/gIQAeOqjmR_blog.html

What else? Well, Cuccinelli was the first state Attorney General to file suit against the Affordable Care Act in 2010, literally within minutes of the bill being signed.
When he ran for gov, he opposed expanding Medicaid in VA. Voters seemed to disagree. https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/23/AR2010032304224.html

This thread could go on all night, but I'll wrap by talking about Cuccinelli's attack on LGBT rights.
In his first months as AG, he advised public VA universities that nondiscrimination policies that had been in place for years didn't have legal grounds. https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/05/AR2010030501582.html
