I wanna say something without getting jumped for it, but I feel like it’s something we do need to address while we’re on the subject...
Thirst tweets are gonna happen. Joon’s an attractive guy, I get it, BUT, that being said, the pattern of discussing him has always been fairly sexual and do think that merits a conversation. From Expens*ve G*rl jokes, to the computer virus jokes, to the catcalling/sex jokes.
It seems to me there’s almost this weird undertone with some of these that paint him as some insatiable horndog. I know some people making these comments don’t have any bad intentions. They appreciate & love him, but as the comments become normalized, people who may not actually+
Care for him or appreciate him start using the same comments, often for clout, and then it becomes more like a stereotype of him. Yes, he’s a grown man and I’m sure he’s had sexual thoughts and what not, but that’s not an open invite to make it a twitter wide discourse topic
It’s one thing to think he’s hot or sexy or whatever, but it’s another to project this hypersexualized persona onto him and have it turn into a misconception about him. I think it’s somewhat inadvertently happening, but again, as it becomes normalized and spreads, the less+
Control we have over that narrative. This becomes especially harmful where new armys are concerned, as we’ve seen time and time again with misconceptions and stereotypes about each of them. His has always been this & I do think we should be mindful of our role in spreading that.
I’m not saying nobody can make jokes. I’m just saying it’s very easy for things to be taken too far & wind up turning into something bad, & I think that’s sort of been ongoing with the jokes surrounding him. I’m down to hear other thoughts on this, I’m just giving my perspective.
I’m not gonna act like I’ve never thirsted over him because that’s a lie, but I also appreciate him & know more about him from years of being an army. I think it’s important to remember that those tweets are some people’s first impression of him & help shape how they view him.
