So...I want to say some things regarding converts. I'm myself a convert in the process, I'm a latino & although I have the ethnic identiy (Sephardic), given the lack proof of continous matrilineality, I'm subject to do a formal conversion, so, I understand how legitimate converts
may feel when they are questioned about the validity of their Jewishness, having said this, I will genuinely say that questioning the motives of people that convert to Judaism is not something that I would consider "gatekeeping", are we really going to pretend that there aren't
people that "convert" to Judaism just for political reasons, for example, just legitimize their predisposed views on specific topics? I'm sorry, but as someone who cares about Judaism and takes seriously Judaism, Jewish culture and the Jewish community, I get as pissed off as the
as the rest of ethnic Jews that see people pretending to care about Judaism, "convert" and then deny the sovereignty, and indigeneity of Jews to Israel. That try to deny Jews are an ethnic people, & not just a religion and then feel with the right to say to
to born members of the tribe what "we really are".
If anything, I think it's important that the person is genuine about the conversion and that doesn't try to redefine everything, we should be calling out people that generally "convert" just to have the label and use it for specific agendas.
