Beware of Environmental Activism

As India is trying hard to reach its full economic potential, one can see sudden rise in hitjob by Environmental NGOs who are trying to create SaveAarey and TribalLivesMatter like Campaigns.
This time the main target is Coal Mining.

They are Opposing Coal Mines and asking govt to shut them down and use alternative sources for electricity production.

Today almost 60% of countries energy demands are met by coal alone. It is the cheapest source of energy production. Also it creates employment specially..
(2/n)
.. in Coal rich tribal areas. Today we dream of becoming $5 trillion economy and a world economic Power. Is it possible without meeting our energy requirements? And as we grow Economically, our energy demand is also going to increase.
(3/n)
We have so many coal mines but in spite of that we were importing coal from abroad. And we allowed only Coal India to engage in Domestic Coal mining for so many years.
This year, as a part of Atmanirbhar Package, Govt decided to auction Coal Mines and to allow Pvt Cos...

..as well to participate in auction. And govt also decided to build Railway network for Coal transportation. And in Budget 2020, they also reduced IT rate for Power generating companies to 15%. Collectively it's a big reform. It will create a lot of Wealth especially in..

..states like Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha etc. It will help meet energy requirements of our country and also help us reduce Coal Imports in a phased manner. It will help our banks since Coal Mines will turn profitable and this can repay their loans & thus reducing NPAs.

Now coming to environmental issue. Ye, Coal damages environment. I agree. But What's the alternative?

Even the alternatives has their own environmental hazards and environmentalist oppose that too. Do we remember hue and cry against Civil Nuclear deal in 2008?
(7/n)
We haven't bought or built a single nuclear reactor from then btw due to lack of funds and Infrastructure for that. Bt will environmentalist support Nuclear reactors? They will oppose everything & public will also blindly support them. Then how will we meet energy demands?
(8/n)
Secondly Nuclear power and other means are very much costly than Coal. Our economy is not strong enough to afford it. Govt will have to invest a huge amt for Nuclear Power or Hydroelectric Power. It will also increase Power cost for consumers. Are we ready for that?
(9/n)
We can't suddenly get away with anything. But I agree we should move towards Nuclear energy in future. Looking at India's economic position, Population etc, we can keep a target of 2050 for becoming a carbon neutral country. We can't suddenly shut down all coal mines.
(10/n)
There was a time when railway was running on Coal. Today they don't need coal and few days back, Piyush Goyal announced that Railway will be carbon neutral by 2030. Same thing will happen with our energy requirements as well. Leftists, pseudo liberals, environmentalist and

Designer Activists provoke people for a complete revolution in every aspect of public life. While some things get evolved over a period of time. This is one issue where we need to believe in evolution rather than sudden revolution.
Saving Environment is Important.
(12/n)
But it's the collective responsibility of every human being. Not just government. If we really care about environment, then we should reducr our individual energy requirements. Reduce electricity consumption. Switch off the power when not needed. Use Public Transport.
(13/n)
If you are using Cars, then try to shift towards EVs or vehicles which run on ethanol. Plant trees if you have space. Reduce the use of Plastic as much as possible. Use cycle instead of Fuel consuming Bike. Do whatever you can in ur personal life. But for country's sake,..
(14/n)
... don't engage in such stupid designer activism just to look cool by being anti establishment or to post selfies with banners. Be a part of Evolution towards sustainable development instead of Revolution which may look cool rn but won't achieve anything good.
