Some news. Since the start of this pandemic, @bowelcanceruk has focussed on two things: the needs of people with bowel cancer during this worrying time, and how we can help - bringing people together online for support and providing the latest news and information. 1/8
I'm so proud of how we’ve been able to pivot our services quickly and innovate in difficult circumstances to make a real difference to people affected by bowel cancer when they need us most. 2/8
But we also knew - from day 1 - that we needed to act fast to cut costs, and furlough every possible member of staff to safeguard our charity. We have missed those colleagues greatly over the past four months. 3/8
Despite the best efforts of our fundraisers and so many wonderful supporters, our income has dropped by about 40% as marathon after marathon was cancelled or postponed. 4/8
This has left us with no option but to reduce the size of our staff, and so today, I began a redundancy consultation with my team. 5/8
We have wonderful, talented, and deeply committed people at Bowel Cancer UK, and this decision has been made with the heaviest of hearts. 6/8
Our new proposals have the needs of people with bowel cancer today, or yet to be diagnosed, front and centre. Our focus and determination is unchanged, but we must think differently about how we use the resources now available to us. 7/8
We will move forward knowing we have the right strategy in place and with the continued support of our wonderful community, for which we are ever grateful.

Our work to rebuild starts now. 8/8
