Leeds Utd and their FPL assets in 20/21 (Thread)

Leeds Utd are back in the PL after a superb Championship season!

If you are like me and don’t watch much of the Championship but still want to know about their FPL assets for next season, here is a detailed walktrough...

Leeds Championship season:

In comparison to the teams that were promoted last season, Leeds has the potential to be even better

Sheffield Utd was the best defensive team last season in the Championship, conceding only 41 goals. As we have seen, their defense has impressed.

Leeds has conceded only 35 goals this season and until they won the league, they had 9 clean sheets in their last 12 games. The defensive options will therefore be exciting for FPL next season.

In attack, Leeds were however a lot more dangerous than Sheffield and even more...

than Norwich and Aston Villa were. Norwich created 95 big chances compared to Leeds 121 this season.

In other words, Leeds are a very exciting team both offensively and defensively which is different from the 3 teams that were promoted last season which lacked one of the two

Starting

Defending:
When Leeds are defending they line-up in a 4-1-4-1 formation with this starting XI where Hernandez and Roberts plays 45 min each

Attacking:
When Leeds are attacking they switch to a 3-3-1-3 formation where Phillips drops in between the 2 CBs

GK: Illan Meslier
Projected price: 4.5

The 20-year old GK only played 9 games for Leeds last season however he looks to have nailed down that starting spot after keeping 6 clean sheets and averaging 1.8 saves per game (80%)

He currently isn’t owned by Leeds but these sort of recent articles suggests that he will stay for the 20/21 season.

Henderson started the season at 5.0. If Meslier would be priced at 4.5, playing for potentially an even better defence, he could be an absolute steal!

RB and LB:
Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas
Projected price: 5.0 for both

As I talked about earlier, these 2 defenders will be really interesting in FPL because they will play as wing-backs and like to push up in attack.

Here are their attacking stats last season:

Games: 34 vs 44
Goals: 4 vs 4
Assists: 4 vs 3
Shots per game: 0.7 vs 1.3
Key passes per game: 0.8 vs 0.9
Big chances created: 8 vs 11
Big chances missed: 0 vs 7

Their stats are better than Stevens and Baldock last season

CBs:

Liam Cooper and (Ben White)
Projected price: 4.5

The captain Liam Cooper is as nailed on as you can get and could be a great budget option next season, similiar to Jack Egan. He will sit back and defend but could pop up at corners and score a goal once in a while

Last season his CB partner was Ben White, loaned in from Brighton and he was claimed as their best defender. Leeds probably don’t have the money to buy him because Brighton will not let him go easily. When teams like Liverpool are interested, the price tag will not be low.

MID:

Kalvin Phillips, PP: 5.0
Helder Costa, PP: 5.5
Mateuscz Klich, PP: 6.0
Tyler Roberts, PP: 5.5
Jack Harrison, PP: 6.0
Pablo Hernandez, PP: 6.5

While Kalvin Phillips has received a lot of the headlines in this Leeds team, he isn’t a FPL asset. In attack he drops...

between the CBs and scored 2 goals and 2 assists in 37 games.

Helder Costa has PL experience. He has 25 appearences, 1 goal and 2 assists for Wolves. 4 goals and 4 assists from 43 appearences this season in the Championship makes me
wonder if he has the quality for the PL.

Mateuscz Klich is the penalty taker for Leeds, scoring 2 out of his 3 last season. He looks to be a typical box-to-box mid, distributing key passes, pushing up in attack while trying to help Phillips defend in the midfield. 6 goals and 5 assists in 44 games last season...

doesn’t look amazing but he did create 10 big chances and averaged 1.8 key passes per game. If Jack Harrison however is priced at the same point as him (which is likely at 6.0) I am definetly preffering Harrison.

Jack Harrison will probably be my favorite attacking...

from Leeds in FPL next season depending on pricing. His stats of 6 goals and 8 assists in 44 games may not blow you away. If you look at the underlying stats however they are really impressive.

He missed 12 big chances last season which he hopefully can improve on but it...

shows that he gets a lot of opportunities. He created 17 big chances while averaging 1.9 key passes per game.

For comparison, only KDB, Mahrez and TAA created more big chances in the PL and of course the PL is a different stage but I am still very intrigued by this 23 year old.

Lastly Roberts and Hernandez usually played 45 mins each in the CAM role at the end of the season. Hernandez managed 9 goals and 7 assists in only 26 starts which is impressive but I have a feeling he will get overpriced at like 6.5 and turning 36 years old, I am not tempted...

Roberts is not an option for me simply because he started a lot of games but was subbed at half-time most of the time and in 22 appearences he scored 3 goals and 1 assist. I would be surprised if Leeds did not sign a new CAM to replace the aging Hernandez and the unproven Roberts

FWD:

Patrick Bamford, Projected price: 6.0

Bamford is a major talking point for me. He started 42 games and scored 16 goals while averaging the 2nd highest shots per game with 2.8. This all sounds like okay numbers but the fact that he missed 33 big chances is scary and...

very off-putting. The striker who missed the 2nd most big chances in the Championship was Grabban with almost half of that amount (17).

Leeds can’t afford to have a striker that misses these many chances in the PL and it would be incredibly weird if Leeds didn’t sign a new,...

more clinical striker to replace Bamford. Depending on the pricing of that striker and whoever that will be, I will be extremely intrigued because of the amount of big chances that Leeds created last season and how many of them fell to the striker.
