🚨🚨🚨THREAD on latest Ohio voter suppression tactic (and what you can do to help!):

Who in their right mind would want to make voting less safe in a pandemic?

To risk voters' lives for political reasons?

It looks like @ohiogop would, that's who.

1/
We all know that voting by mail, early, is the best way to make this election safer in this pandemic

The more people vote early, from their home, the less congested Election Day will be.

The safer it is for voters.

For poll workers.

For voters.

2/
We also know that vote by mail is not subject to fraud in the way Trump keeps spewing about, right?

Even Gov. DeWine, SOS LaRose, Lt. Gov. Husted have said that that simply isn't the case.

So if you care about safety, you want more vote by mail, right?

3/
You'd think

But then you'd recall OH is saddled w horrifically gerrymandered legislative districts that long ago extinguished common sense & basic safety in the name of partisanship

🚨So of course, there is now a bill rushing through the Ohio Senate as we speak that will..

4/
...make voting by mail harder.

It's called HB680.

The Ohio Senate only provided notice Friday, but they want the bill to be voted on tomorrow in committee.

What does it do?

5/
1) It would PROHIBIT the state from using federal funds to pay for prepaid postage for absentee ballots AND absentee ballot applications -- (the Secretary of State previously announced that he plans to prepay postage for requested ballots, so the bill would nix that plan)

6/
2) it reduces the time to request a vote by mail ballot by 5 days

And we're waiting to see what amendments they add to this bill to make it worse. We'll keep you posted.

7/
Now they're rushing this through so they do so without hearing from you.

But we still have time to kill that plan. So if you have a few minutes, please do the following:

8/
Call your own State Senator (if he or she is a Republican), and if you have a Democratic State Senator, call one or several of the following GOP State Senators:

Sen. Stephanie Kunze: (614) 466-5981
Sen. Matt Dolan: (614) 466-8056
Sen. Theresa Gavarone: (614) 466-8060

9/
Sen. Peggy Lehner: (614) 466-4538
Sen. John Eklund: (614) 644-7718
Sen. Larry Obhof: (614) 466-7505

And please remind them that that their job, in a pandemic, is to make voting more safe, not less so.

More convenient, not less so.

10/
Feel free to remind them that OH's secretary of state has said repeatedly, as has Governor DeWine, that voting by mail is safe and secure.

That it is utilized by both political parties, and especially older Ohioans, who are particularly at risk for the coronavirus.

11/
And that funds have already been allocated to pay for postage on requested vote-by-mail ballots.

Challenge them to prioritize safety and health over narrow partisan interests...to respect citizens' interest in voting, and voting safely.

Ask them to oppose HB 680.

12/
And when you've done so, please write back here, on twitter, what response you got.

And please RT this thread so your followers can also take action.

Thank you..
