Out of 42,552,835 valid votes in the 2016 elections, 16,601,997 voted for Rodrigo Duterte while 25,950,838 did not vote for him. To put things into perspective, the number of people who did not vote for him are greater than those who did—he only won by plurality, not by majority.
The numbers, rigged or not, speak for themselves: Rodrigo Duterte never had the support of the electoral majority; those numbers do not even account for the fact that his regime is losing supporters and growing more isolated with his clique of militarists and loyalist oligarchs.
Either way, we cannot trust, wait, and prepare for the next elections. Two more years is long enough for this regime to consolidate power and railroad its fascist and tyrannical delusions. If we have to boot a dictator out of power, we have to do it now. We all have to act now.
